Summer in The Sea Ranch ...

The grasses here in The Sea Ranch have turned from vibrant green to rich gold as Spring has transitioned into Summer. More people are to be seen on our trails and beaches, but never does one feel crowded. Rather, it is an opportunity to make new friends and share a “good morning” or perhaps just a friendly wave. It is hot inland, so our mornings are blessed with a cooling mist while, most afternoons, a warming sun brightens our day. The dress code in the Ranch is casual layers, the depth of which can be adjusted as necessary. A comfortable hat and a good pair of shoes completes the attire of most residents. The ocean lives up to it’s name this time of year with a comparatively quiet surface, while below, the strong upwelling of cold water enriches life deep within. An occasional whale cruises the surface, lines of pelicans patrol the coast, and this year’s fawns will soon be loosing their spots. All is well here in this paradise.

Summer along the coast is a long string of festivals, contests, art exhibits, and all manner of outdoor activities. Communities up and down the coast celebrate with neighbors celebrating neighbors. Lots of visitors from out of the area, but no big stars from out of town. Everybody knows everybody and everybody takes a genuine interest in the creativity of their neighbor. Each of the host of local artisans is continually contributing new work worthy of exhibition, but there is another level of appreciation when you actually know the individual behind the creation. It is one more aspect of community that is often lost in large urban centers and it is an important aspect of life in this very unique area. Some of our local residents are, themselves, names known well beyond our community. For example, earlier this month, Gualala Arts held it’s annual car show, this year celebrating the work of long time resident Sid Waterman, an important name in the world of automobile racing.

The real estate market remains strong with a considerable amount of activity here in The Sea Ranch. People are attracted to this community for an extremely wide variety of reasons, but, obviously, it is not suitable for everyone. Each of us have different needs, tastes, resources, desires, etc, so I recognize that The Sea Ranch may not be the right fit for you and yours at this point in your lives, but one never knows for certain until this very unique place has been “checked out.” If you are in the market for a new primary or secondary residence I would very much like to help you obtain the information that you will need to properly assess the fit of the Ranch to your life.
